CI High Five (UK) Support Group

We are building on the success of CI socials that have already taken place in Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire
and now are extending to Northamptonshire and London.

We have planned CI socials in the following locations for next year with a view to two CI socials at each location below per year giving people the opportunity of attending any of the events.

Oxford, Aylesbury, Milton Keynes, Northampton, High//West Wycombe, Reading, St. Albans, Luton and London.

The group provides opportunities for:

  • Online chat – With other like-minded individuals who are either CI candidates or users.  It is a closed Facebook group and there are a lot of experienced members and support online to tap into.
  • Get-togethers – People can attend and meet others face to face at different locations and venues across the patch

CI South West

CI South West is a social group made up of Cochlear Implant (CI) users and candidates in the South West of England, including those who received their CI at Southmead/St Michaels/BRI Hospitals in Bristol, UK.The main purpose of this group is to provide an opportunity for CI users and candidates in the South West to meet each other, ask questions and share experiences. Partners and friends are welcome too.

We regularly host CI social events in Bristol, Bath, Weston, Exeter, Taunton and other locations in the South West.
A secondary purpose of this group is to share information and experiences about Southmead/BRI surgical and audiology units.

CI Southern Counties

This is a social group for people in the UK and Ireland, particularly from the Southampton AIS centre area (Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire, Sussex)
who have a Cochlear Implant or who are in the process of finding out about Cochlear Implants.

Northern CI Social Group

We are an informal and friendly social group whre you can come along and meet other CI users and prospective candidates in a relaxed atmoshere.
Enjoy a cup of tea/coffee with biscuits and have a chat with other CI users.
Family and friends are most welcome and we look forward to meeting you.

We hold meetings  twice every month; one is held on the First Monday of the month at the ‘Quaker Meeting House’ just a short walk from the ancient Cathedral of Sheffield.

Northwest Local Group

We are a regional group affiliated to the National Association of Deafened People.
The focus is on people with an acquired hearing loss, whether due to illness or to age. Hearing partners or friends are also welcome.
Our members come from all over the north-west including Chester, Wirral, Liverpool, Oldham, Preston and North Wales.
We have no HQ, but meet up most months at a variety of venues.
Events,organised by members themselves, vary: canal-boat cruises and captioned theatre have featured recently.

The St Thomas’ Hearing Implant Centre
Regularly run group sessions throughout the year for all adult cochlear implant users.  These groups aim to offer adult cochlear implant users, their family members and friends the chance to meet up and chat over coffee.  They are run by experienced professionals who will offer up-to-date information on a range of topics.  These interactive groups will also involve group discussions, hands on experience, problem solving and practise.

Venue: St Thomas’ Hospital, Therapies Room, 3rd Floor Lambeth Wing

These groups are also an ideal opportunity to use your listening skills in a social situation.

Regular coffee mornings held for adult cochlear implant users and their friends and family in Bradford, Barnsley, Hull and Ilkley. Meetings are held 3-4 times a year in each location.
An audiological technician attends the Hull, Bradford and Barnsley groups and is available to check processors and issue spare and repairs as well as changing mic covers for people who need assistance with this.
We also run remember to listen conversation groups three times a year in Bradford for older adults who would like to have more conversational practice with other CI users.
We run improving communication groups, music groups and intro to using the telephone groups too but these are by invitation only.
