Hearing for Healthy Ageing

October 5, 2017 @ 12:30 am - 5:30 pm

£100

The Ear Foundation is pleased to announce the ‘Hearing for Healthy Ageing’ conference at Central Hall Westminster on 5 October 2017.

The number of people with hearing loss in the older population will grow dramatically in the next decade and the needs and lifestyle of this growing population are changing. There will be a crisis of care for the older population with significantly greater levels of dementia, mental health issues and a lack of independence unless we act now. Effective management of hearing is a corner stone of healthy ageing, yet the impact of hearing on health, quality of life and participation in society is still under-recognized. Integrated management of hearing loss within our healthcare and social systems are not yet clearly defined.

This conference aims to build on the work of the NHS England Living Well with Hearing Loss Working Group supporting delivery of the Action Plan on Hearing Loss. The conference will take forward the themes developed in the    ‘Spend to Save’ campaign, by showing how investment in hearing technologies for healthy ageing saves money and improves lives.

During this conference we will present the latest evidence for the effective management of hearing loss in older people. We will propose new models of integrated care which bring value to individuals and healthcare systems. Changes in policy and practice can address the burden of hearing loss on society, healthcare, the individual and their families. Join us to find out how inter-department and interdisciplinary work can optimize wellbeing in later years and save society money.

This conference, starting at 12.30pm, will culminate with afternoon tea and the launch of our new research report into the benefits of bimodal hearing technologies at 5pm.
