Our Devices

Nucleus® Freedom™

The freedom processor is ergonomically designed for comfortable and discreet wearing behind the ear, just like a hearing aid. Free of any in-the-ear parts, pressure and pain are avoided. Using similar digital processing technology and as easy to use as modern hearing aids, you do not need to be a technology expert to use the Freedom.

The Nucleus Freedom is the current generation in cochlear implant technology and includes our revolutionary SmartSound™ technology that provides better hearing in even more day to day situations.

Versatile wearing options and colour choice give you the freedom for your own personal style. Telephones and accessories connect wirelessly using the inbuilt telecoil or through the convenient inbuilt accessory port.

Freedom’s exclusive water resistance (IP44 international standard) means you can relax around water without having to worry about protecting against unwanted splashes and humidity.

FM systems are a common accessory used by other cochlear implant users to improve their hearing in meetings, classrooms, lectures and countless other situations. Cochlear provides an extensive range of accessories to suit these different situations. As an example, many schools use FM systems to assist children in the classroom and Cochlear Freedom provides the ability to transmit the child’s voice wirelessly with the child using an FM receiver to listen.

The Freedom BTE processors use commonly available zinc air batteries and the Bodyworn AAA batteries. However the Freedom processor is supplied with rechargeable lithium batteries which are designed to last a minimum of 365 charges while retaining at least 85% of its power. This allows you to make your own choice over battery selection and most importantly the freedom to have an uninterrupted day.

The Freedom range incorporates a comprehensive inbuilt help function that can automatically troubleshoot common problems and can be easily locked and unlocked to prevent accidental changes to settings.

Freedom™ Accessories for Children

Children have distinctive hearing needs and their daily hearing requirements range from developing speech and sound for the first time as a baby or focusing on a teacher talking while other kids chatter.
Freedoms has been designed to meet these and your child’s other hearing needs, now and as they grow with a versatile range of wearing options.

Nucleus® Babyworn™ - for babies is a safe and comfortable solution for young babies. With the addition of the new Babyworn Cable, the Freedom BTE is instantly converted into a small Bodyworn processor. This minimises the components worn behind the ear and keeps the microphone at ear level. It will provide increased confidence and peace of mind for parents and carers and of course there is also the flexibility to convert easily back into a BTE as a child grows.

Bodyworn for infants consists of a harness configuration and is ideal for the rough and tumble of playtime as your child starts to learn about the world around them.

BTE (behind the ear) for school age reduces the cables and size without sacrificing the full functionality needed for school and play.

MiniBTE for teenagers provides interchangeable colours and sleek design making it ultra sleek and ideal for appearance conscious teenagers.

Most importantly a unique feature of all of Cochlear’s implants is the inbuilt intelligence that enables connection to future innovations in sound processing, without the need for additional surgery. Today, every user of Cochlear’s earlier implants has access to the Freedom processor. We call this access to the latest innovations our lifetime commitment to you.
